This movie addresses the timeless issue of how (religious, political) absolute truth claims turn into mechanisms of human enslavement. Instrumentalizing our fears of the unknown, religious claims are strongly inclined to develop one-dimensional, exclusionary perspectives on what is allegedly ‘right’ or ‘wrong’. As we know, wars are still being waged against those that fit this arbitrarily created category of ‘wrongness’. The movie - though a bit trashy and overly populist at times - is devoted to an historical explanation of this human will to subordination…. subordination to arbitrarily constructed truths that seem to justify our intolerance towards difference and diversity.
